About Me
I was born in Pueblo, Colorado and developed an affinity for all things wild from a very young age, but have always been particularly smitten with dogs.
As a young adult my adoration for the natural world and all its creatures deepened; I went to school at Colorado State University to study conservation, wildlife, and natural resources. I worked with wolves and wolfdogs for over 4 years, and spent any downtime wandering the local mountains and forests. Eventually I found my way to Alaska and spent half a year in a conservation corps working on restoring an abandoned trail. I fell in love with the lifestyle; living outside and off-grid during the summer months, being surrounded by vast and endless wilderness, working with my own hands and body for long hours, and forming a strong bond with my crewmates. John Muir once warned, “Never go to Alaska as a young man because you’ll never be satisfied with any other place as long as you live,” and that rang true for me.
Naturally, Dog Camp was the perfect place for me to end up. Located in the breathtaking and remote Juneau Icefields, I worked for dog mushers and their modest pack of 240 Alaskan huskies (+1 Siberian, for fun). I find the world of sled dogs to be enthralling and addictive; less than a year later I adopted my first sled dog and the love of my life, Waylon Jennings. Two years later it became my full-time career, running my own team at Dog Camp in the summertime and guiding tours for a former Iditarod musher in Colorado during the winter.
To me, art has always been the reflection of my most authentic self. I feel so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by endless inspiration drawn from nature every day. And dogs. Dogs will always be my first love.
